People say that Brian Dawkins is a presence and that he brings leadership, intensity and passion. Those are nice words, but I think this video drives the point home - plus it'll get you juiced for the season. This kind of animal is what we have longed for on defense. Yes, he is in the twilight of his career, but watching him last year proved to me that he still has a couple years left in the tank. When he was introduced, B.Dawk said he was flattered when McD approached him - telling him that we NEED him. To this end, I agree with McD. We need more of this type of presence on our defense. We now have a young secondary w/ draft choices etc. Let's hope some of this rubs off on them in the next couple of years.
The Future
Robert Ayers. The last time I heard Mike Mayock rave about someone like this, it was in regard to a certain QB from Vandy in '06. This is. of course, ironic given that we used a Cutler-trade pick to snag Ayers at 18. Mayock says Ayers will be the best defensive player from this draft. I hope so as I harbor little doubt that Cutler will develop into the best offensive player in the league. When watching Ayers in this video, as he dominates top competition at the senior bowl and in the SEC, it's hard to argue with Mayock's assesment.
